Pune : Thieves Target Tourists Staying At Rented Properties In Lonavala, Three Arrested And Ten Cases Solved
Pune 9th Sept 2023: The Pune Rural Police have arrested a gang of thieves for targeting the tourists staying in rented properties in Lonavala to steal cash and other valuables during their stay here. The rural police had received several complaints from tourists and local residents in this regard in the past the Local Crime Branch (LCB) unit was tasked to investigate the matter.
A meeting to study theft cases reported in Lonavala was conducted and a dedicated team of Pune Rural Police’s Local Crime Branch unit was formed to investigate the pattern. During the investigation, the police team found involvement of a local history-sheeter in the theft cases. Accordingly, the accused identified as Wasim Salauddin Chaudhary (27), a resident of Lonavala was taken into custody.
During the further investigation, the accused confessed to the involvement of two more people in the crime. The crime branch officials nabbed two more people identified as Salim Salauddin Chaudhary (21) and Shahrukh Babu Shaikh (21), both residents of Lonavala. It was revealed that the accused were keeping a track of some private properties that are rented out to the tourists and they were stealing cash and gold from tourists staying in Lonavala. The police have managed to seize Gold chain, diamond ring, gold ring and two motorcycles worth Rs 2,26,700 from their possession. The police have found involvement of three arrested accused in ten cases of theft registered in Lonavala city and Lonavala rural police station.
The rural police have appealed to the tourists coming to Lonavala to keep the doors locked if they are staying at a rented property during their visit and take good care of their valuables. The police have also appealed to the local citizens to install CCTV cameras in their properties that are rented out.
