Pune: Three Prisoners Die In Yerwada Jail Due To Ailments

Yerwada, 3rd January 2023: Three prisoners serving sentences for different crimes have died in Yerwada Jail. It has been clarified by the prison administration that the prisoners died due to various diseases.

Meanwhile, accidental death (AD) has been registered at Yerwada police station in this case.

The names of the deceased are Sandesh Anil Gondekar (26), a resident of Donje, Haveli, Shahrukh Babu Sheikh (29), a resident of Kondhwa, and Ranganath Chandrasekhar Datal (32), a resident of Morgaon, Baramati.

Gondekar was arrested for murder in 2018 and has since been in Yerwada Jail. His parents used to visit him regularly. On 31st December, his father went to jail to meet him. At that time, he came to know about the death of his son through the Haveli police station. After that, he filed an objection saying that the jail administration was responsible for the death of his son. But his death was due to “liver cirrhosis,” the prison administration informed.

Meanwhile, prisoners Shahrukh Sheikh and Ranganath Datal were suffering from various diseases. The Yerwada Jail Administration has informed the families concerned about it. Senior Police Inspector Balkrishna Kadam of Yerwada police station informed that the medical team has clarified that all three prisoners were suffering from various diseases and died due to the same.
