Pune Traffic Alert: Repairs On Rakshak Chowk Flyover Cause Congestion On Aundh-Ravet Road

Ravet, 8th August 2026: The newly opened Rakshak Chowk flyover on the Aundh-Ravet Road has developed potholes and surface damage within a few months of being opened to traffic, with repair work currently underway on the stretch.

The flyover, which was opened on 22 May 2026, was constructed at a reported cost of around ₹22.8 crore and was expected to improve traffic movement between Aundh, Sangvi Phata, Ravet and Kiwale.

However, the road surface on parts of the flyover has deteriorated during the monsoon, with potholes and damaged portions now visible on the stretch. Repair work has been underway for around a week, according to on-ground observations.

The ongoing work has also affected traffic movement on the Aundh-Ravet Road, with vehicles facing congestion around the flyover and Rakshak Chowk. The situation has been particularly noticeable during busy hours, as traffic movement is affected by the repair activity and reduced road space.

The surface damage had earlier been reported within about two months of the flyover’s opening. Residents had raised concerns over the condition of the road and the need for repairs soon after the structure was made operational.

According to civic officials, the damage is limited to the bituminous concrete layer at the junction between the concrete bus-stop structure and the bituminous road. Officials have maintained that the issue is not related to the structural stability of the flyover and that repair work has been initiated.

The flyover had also been under scrutiny before its opening due to concerns regarding its steep gradient. A safety audit reportedly found no structural defects but recommended measures including a 30 kmph speed limit, rumble strips and improved signage.

With repair work now continuing during the monsoon, commuters using the Aundh-Ravet corridor are facing additional delays. The condition of the road is likely to remain a concern for commuters until the ongoing work is completed and normal traffic movement resumes.

The Rakshak Chowk flyover was developed as a key infrastructure project to improve connectivity and reduce congestion along one of Pimpri-Chinchwad’s important east-west corridors. Its early surface deterioration and the resulting traffic disruption have now put renewed focus on road maintenance and the durability of newly completed infrastructure during the monsoon.
