Pune: Traffic Chaos on Sinhagad Road: Citizens Suffer Due to Sudden Roadwork and Rains
Pune, 20th August 2025: Heavy rains over the past two days, coupled with sudden roadwork, brought traffic on Sinhagad Road to a standstill on Tuesday, leaving thousands of commuters stranded and frustrated.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) began unplanned construction work in the Vithalwadi area during morning rush hour. At Prakash Inamdar Chowk in Vishwanagar, a road divider was suddenly closed while workers simultaneously began laying a new divider on one side of the bridge and constructing a pedestrian path on the other. The move choked traffic from all directions.
As a result, long queues of vehicles stretched from Prakash Inamdar Chowk to Damodar Nagar, Tokainagar, Mahadev Nagar, Anand Vihar, and Canal Road. Commuters from Manik Bagh, Anand Nagar, and those heading towards Vishnitha Nagar and Rajaram Bridge were also caught in the gridlock.
Frustrated citizens blamed PMC for the chaos. “This zero planning by the administration forces us to suffer the same traffic nightmare again and again,” said a local commuter.
Traffic police, including Anmalder Suhas Hazare, Umesh Tikole, Amit Pujari, Shrikant Sargar, and several women constables, were deployed to clear stones at Vishnitha Nagar Chowk and regulate the flow of vehicles. However, despite their efforts, vehicles continued to pile up, with four-wheelers stranded as far as Madhav Nagar.
Meanwhile, uncertainty over the inauguration date of the long-awaited Sinhagad Road flyover has only added to citizens’ woes.
