Pune, 26th January 2024: The city witnessed a surge in vehicular traffic as citizens took advantage of the long Republic Day weekend to embark on leisure trips. Starting from Friday, a significant number of people have hit the roads, causing congestion on the Pune-Satara highway. The traffic snarl had extended for approximately three kilometres from the Khed-Shivapur toll booth.

The Republic Day holiday, coupled with the extended weekend, has led to a three-day getaway for many. Consequently, three consecutive toll booths have experienced an influx of vehicles. As a result, the roads connecting Pune to Satara, including the Khed-Shivapur toll booth, have encountered heavy traffic flow, stretching up to around three kilometres.

Starting early Friday morning, the roads witnessed increased vehicular movement, but the congestion intensified as the clock struck 10 a.m. The stretch between Kondhane Phata and Khed-Shivapur toll booth took approximately fifteen to twenty minutes to traverse, causing delays for those aiming to cross this crucial junction.

This surge in traffic is attributed to citizens eager to make the most of the Republic Day weekend by heading towards popular destinations such as Konkan, Goa, and other nearby places. As the weekend progresses, authorities anticipate that the traffic situation may persist, urging travellers to plan their journeys accordingly and remain patient during the holiday rush.

Authorities are advising commuters to stay informed about the traffic conditions, consider alternative routes if possible, and exercise caution on the roads to ensure a safe and enjoyable travel experience during this long weekend.
