Pune, 22nd December 2025: The Pune City Traffic Police conducted a three-day special enforcement drive against drunken driving across the city, taking legal action against more than 200 motorists, officials said on Sunday.

According to the traffic department, the special drive was carried out from December 19 to December 21, 2025, to curb incidents of driving under the influence of alcohol and improve road safety. During the operation, police set up checkpoints at 30 locations across different parts of Pune and carried out intensive vehicle checks.

As part of the campaign, action was taken against a total of 201 drivers who were found driving after consuming alcohol. The traffic police said all offenders were booked under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and penalised as per the law. Further legal procedures were also initiated against the violators.

Officials said the campaign was aimed at deterring motorists from drunk driving, which continues to be a major cause of road accidents in the city, especially during weekends and late-night hours.

The Pune City Traffic Police has appealed to citizens to strictly follow traffic rules and avoid driving after consuming alcohol. “Drunken driving is a serious offence and poses a grave risk to the lives of drivers, passengers and other road users,” the department said in its appeal, urging people to act responsibly and prioritise road safety.

The traffic department said such enforcement drives will continue in the coming days to reduce accidents and ensure safer roads in Pune.
