Pune, November 20, 2019: Mahatma Gandhi famously said, “You must be the change you want to see in the world.”

The Pune City Police Traffic Branch is truly following this saying. As Punekars have started sending details of people violating traffic rules, the cops have intensified action against those. However, in all these many people are informing the Traffic Branch about errant police personnel who are not following the traffic rules themselves.

Based on photos sent by common people, Pune police have begun taking action against its men and women in uniform.

On Wednesday, Ravi Jain tweeted, “CR Mobile 33. MH12 RR0512 1) Driver talking on the phone while driving. 2) Number plate should say 0512 not 512. Location. Opp CTR. Nagar Road. Nr Veer Hemant Karkare Chowk. Maaro fine. Pls post details here.”

And within hours, the Traffic Branch posted an e-challan photo of Rs 400 fine against the police control room vehicle as the driver (policeman in Khaki uniform) was not wearing a seat belt and also he was talking on the phone. The three photos shared by Jain has been preserved as evidence and sent in the e-challan.

Another user Sneha Sakharkar posted a policeman riding a Bullet without a helmet. “@PuneCityTraffic

ye tumhare police wale @nitin_gadkari sir @Dev_Fadnavis sir @PMOIndia sir! Koi toh dekh lo! Helmet sirf Aam janta k liye hai”, she posted. The cops asked for the date, time and place of the photo. Sneha replied that the photo was clicked at Mundhwa square at 9.20 am on November 20, 2019.

And the police posted e-challan photo stating that Rs 700 fine has been imposed as the person is not wearing a helmet and his bike is seen standing on the zebra crossing.

Then there is Nilesh C who posted two photos of two-wheeler riders without helmet including one being a policeman with Khaki pant. He posted the photos on November 18 but there was no action. As he reminded the cops. The challans were issued Rs 500 for not wearing a helmet.

Pune Police have appealed people share details through Satark Punekar App, of those who violate traffic rules and get discount coupons of various merchants in the city. The App captures date, time, place and GPS co-ordinates for better action.
