Pune, 9th March 2026: Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram on Monday presented a ₹13,995 crore budget for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for the financial year 2026–27, with a focus on strengthening infrastructure, improving water supply, expanding the road network and easing traffic congestion in the city.

Addressing a press conference after presenting the budget before the standing committee, Ram said priority projects will be undertaken over the next year to improve the city’s ease of living, reduce pollution and increase the speed of traffic movement.

He said the civic administration will focus on developing the road network, particularly in newly merged villages, where at least one major road in each area will be developed to improve connectivity.

The water supply department has received the highest allocation in the budget, with ₹2,077 crore earmarked to strengthen the city’s water infrastructure and complete key water supply projects, especially in newly added areas of the city.

According to Ram, the budget emphasises key sectors such as infrastructure development, water supply, roads, traffic management and solid waste management. A provision of ₹1,866 crore has been proposed for the road department, ₹1,390 crore for solid waste management and ₹1,216 crore for sewage treatment projects.

Keeping in mind the increasing traffic congestion in the city, ₹740 crore has been allocated for traffic planning and improvement projects. The funds will be used for construction of flyovers, road widening, traffic improvement works and signal management systems.

Ram said the civic administration will also work in line with the policy of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to improve Pune’s “Ease of Living Index.” He added that cleanliness and effective waste management will remain key priorities, and the impact of the strengthened waste management system is expected to become visible over the next year.

The budget also proposes ₹979 crore for the primary education department. Under this initiative, 75 municipal schools will be developed as model schools, with improvements in infrastructure, digital learning tools, student facilities and overall educational standards.

₹500 crore allocated for land acquisition
Ram said traffic congestion remains one of the city’s major challenges, with several road development projects delayed due to lack of land acquisition. To address this issue, ₹500 crore has been allocated specifically for land acquisition.

He said that although Pune has around 2,400 km of roads, heavy traffic is concentrated on only 32 major roads, leading to congestion. The civic body plans to acquire land required for “missing link” roads in the coming year to improve connectivity and ease traffic flow.

Repair of Khadakwasla–Parvati water pipeline planned
To ensure smoother water supply in the city, the main pipeline from Khadakwasla to the Parvati water treatment plant will be repaired. The civic body also plans to fully implement the 24-hour water supply scheme soon.

Additionally, filter beds at water treatment plants will be replaced to reduce leakages. To improve cleanliness in the city, the civic administration plans to increase vehicles and manpower for waste management and has also proposed a 300 metric tonne wet waste processing project.
