Pune: Two Arrested For Illegal Cannabis Cultivation In Alandi And Mahalunge MIDC; Police Seize Plants Worth Over Rs 16 Lakh

Pune, 23rd May 2025: In a crackdown on illegal drug cultivation, two individuals have been arrested for growing cannabis in separate operations conducted under the jurisdictions of Alandi and Mahalunge MIDC police stations. Authorities have seized 55 cannabis plants valued at ₹16.13 lakh.
The first raid took place at Bagwanwasti in Markal village, under the Alandi police station limits. Police arrested Gange Mane Kami (58), originally from Nepal and currently residing and working in Markal, Khed. He was found cultivating 15 cannabis plants on a farm where he was employed. The seized plants were valued at ₹2.13 lakh.
In a separate operation, the Mahalunge MIDC police acted on a tip-off and arrested Balu Baban Galav (65) at Koregaon Khurd in Khed. Police discovered 40 cannabis plants weighing 28 kilograms, estimated to be worth ₹14 lakh. Additionally, officers recovered 25 grams of processed cannabis worth ₹1,250 from his possession. The total seizure from this raid amounted to ₹14.01 lakh.
Further investigations are underway to determine whether the accused have links to a larger network.
