Pune: Two Children Record Proof About 60-Year-Old Molester, Get Him Arrested
Dighi, 14th February 2023: Recently, two kids in the Dighi area identified and caught a 60-year-old for inappropriate behaviour. The children recorded the terrible behaviour of the accused, Pradeep Chavan, who had been stalking and abusing their cousin for the previous two weeks, using their grandmother’s smartphone.
Following a complaint from the victim’s grandmother, Chavan (60), who resides in the same housing society, has now been arrested.
The victim, a 14-year-old girl, resides with her grandmother, aunt, and two cousins, according to the police. The kids interact and have fun together. The victim became afraid to approach Chavan when he started touching the girl. Her pain was known to her cousins. The youngsters tried to tell their grandmother about her ordeal, but they were unsuccessful. As she believed the accused liked children, the woman disregarded their attempts to bring up the man’s inappropriate touching of her. The kids realised right away that there would need to be proof to hold him accountable.
On February 11, at 5 pm, the grandma told the girl to go to the terrace and collect the clothes. Chavan followed the victim and her cousins upstairs and made an effort to molest the girl. Her cousins hurried back, carrying their grandmother’s smartphone, and began filming the old man’s behaviour.
The kids struggled to present the film to their grandma despite having the evidence since she was concerned with cleaning and paid little attention.
The family travelled to Dhanori the following day at 10 am and arrived back at 1 pm. The defendant was sitting at the staircase at the time. The youngster pointed at him and said, “That man has been bothering our sister quite a bit. She no longer goes out to play in the society.”
The grandma asked the victim about the incident at that point. The youngster then astonished his grandmother by showing her the footage. Their 13-year-old daughter also came forward to confirm that the man had been following her carefully and had once even grabbed her hand and pulled her close when the victim’s grandma brought up the matter with her neighbour. The victim’s next-door neighbour was shocked to learn this. The two families then called the police and notified other people in the community about the situation.
According to Senior police inspector Dillip Shinde, Chavan has been arrested and a case has been registered under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code and under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
