Pune: Two Girls Die By Suicide Within Two Hours; Both Were Close Friends

Pune, 14th September 2022: On Tuesday night, two 19-year-old girls, who were each other’s close friends allegedly died by suicide in Pune’s Hadapsar neighbourhood within two hours.

According to police officials, the deceased has been identified as Sanika Harishchandra Bhagwat (19) and Akansha Audumbar Gaikwad (19), both residents of Hadapsar’s Shewalewadi neighbourhood.

Senior Inspector Arvind Gokule said, “Around 6.30 p.m., Sanika Bhagwat was found dead at her house in the first suspected suicide case. Akanksha Gaikwad reached Bhagwat’s house and was in shock while the police team was there performing an initial investigation.”

Gokule added, “While Bhagwat’s body was taken in the ambulance, Gaikwad walked to the terrace of the fifth floor of a building and allegedly died by suicide.”

He added, “The two girls had been close friends since they were little. They both attended nearby colleges and lived close to one another.”

Gokule continued, “We don’t know the exact reason Sanika and Akansha took such drastic measures. We will be speaking to their family members soon.”
