Pune: Two Held For Allegedly Trying To Run Over Woman With Pickup Truck in Balewadi After Row Over Dog

Pune, 21st September 2026: A 46-year-old woman was allegedly attacked with a pickup truck following a minor argument over her dog in Balewadi on September 16. Baner police arrested two men, including the driver of the vehicle, in connection with the incident.

The injured woman has been identified as Manisha Sanjay Bhandari (46), currently residing at Park Express Society near Balewadi High Street. Police arrested pickup truck driver Dinesh Dashrath Biradar (23), a resident of Rishikesh Balwadkar Chawl, and Prashant Navnath Bhondwe (25), a resident of Nikhil Balwadkar Chawl, both in Balewadi.

Based on Bhandari’s complaint, police registered a case against the two accused for attempt to murder and under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

According to police, Bhandari had gone to the Sanjay Farm area around 8.30pm on September 16 to walk her dog. A white pickup truck used for transporting drinking water was parked along the edge of a ground. As Bhandari and her dog passed near the vehicle, the driver asked whether the dog would bite. Bhandari told him that the dog was not aggressive.

As the dog began sniffing the truck’s tyre, the driver allegedly tried to drive it away, leading to an argument between him and Bhandari. She also noticed that the driver and another man in the pickup were allegedly drinking alcohol and objected to them consuming liquor there.

After taking her dog for a walk, Bhandari was sitting near an office when one of the accused allegedly drove the pickup truck towards her in an attempt to run her over. The two men then fled the spot.

Following Bhandari’s complaint, police arrested Biradar and Bhondwe. Assistant police inspector Anil Kekan is investigating the case.
