Pune: Two Kabaddi Players From Indapur Died, Seven Others Injured In Accident At Bijapur

Indapur, 17th March 2021: Two Kabaddi players were killed and seven others injured when a vehicle carrying players from Indapur taluka collided with a container on the way to Bedgi village, 20 km from Bijapur in Karnataka. All of them have been admitted to Banjara Hospital in Bijapur for treatment.

The Maharana Kabaddi team from Kalamb in Indapur taluka of Pune district is famous all over the state and the team had left for Bijapur in Karnataka today to participate in the state-level competition at Bedgi. Today early morning, all the players left Bhavani Nagar and Kalamb on Solapur road in Tavera.

Nine of them were seriously injured when the Tavera vehicle collided with a container on Bijapur Road at around 7 am. The deceased include Mahadev Awate of Bhavani Nagar and Sohail Syed of Kalamb, both from Indapur taluka. They died on the spot, while seven others were seriously injured. All the injured have been admitted to Banjara Hospital in Bijapur for treatment, doctors said.

Meanwhile, the office of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and MLA Rohit Pawar rushed to the spot to provide help. Pune District Superintendent of Police Dr Abhinav Deshmukh also spoke to the District Superintendent of Police, Bijapur and discussed the process of treatment and autopsy.

Mahadev Awate, a member of the Maharana Kabaddi team from Bhavani Nagar, was a two-time national champion and was training kabaddi players. He wanted to be a policeman but his dream remained unfulfilled. A pall of gloom has descended in Indapur.
