Pune: Two-Storey Flyover To Be Built At University Chowk To Solve Traffic Problem
Pune, 3 April 2021: A budget of Rs 570 crore has been submitted to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) for the construction of a two-lane flyover from Pune University Chowk to Abhiman Chowk on Baner Road, subways and grade separator at Simla Office Chowk. Of the total amount, PMRDA has demanded that Rs 435 crore should be paid by the PMC. The plan is to resolve the traffic congestion problem on Senapati Bapat Road.
PMRDA has undertaken a metro project between Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar. The whole project is going to be elevated. For this, the flyover at Pune University Chowk was an obstacle and hence, was demolished by the PMRDA ten months ago.
Now, PMRDA is planning to build a two-storey flyover at the same place. The plan has been prepared by PMRDA and has been sent to the civic body for approval.
Proposal by PMRDA Commissioner Suhas Divase:
1) The overall cost of the project is expected to be around Rs 570 crore.
2) In the meeting held between the Pune Municipal Corporation, PMRDA, the State government had decided that the Municipal Corporation will bear 50 percent of the cost of the flyover.
3) The flyover at University Chowk is expected to cost around Rs 270 crore. Out of which, Rs 135 crore will be paid by the PMC.
5) Apart from this, Rs 300 crore is expected to be spent for the construction of two subways and one grace separator. Including these, the Pune Municipal Corporation should pay Rs 435 crore.
Works that need to be done:
– A two and a half kilometre long two-storey flyover from Pune University to E-Square
– Second floor will have a separate route for Metro
– Two-lane ramp to Baner
– Ramp to flyover on Senapati Bapat Road
– Two-lane ramp to Pashan
– Ramp from Shivajinagar to Aundh flyover in front of Government Technical College premises
– Underground route on Harekrishna Mandir path
– Grade separator at Shimla Office Chowk and flyover
– Baner Road to Abhiman Shri Chowk flyover
