Pune, 2nd March 2023: A young man narrowly escaped death in yet another accident on Sinhagad Road, where the Public Works Department has left a dangerous open space for bifurcation.

Karan Gurudatta Waghmare (27), a resident of Kolhewadi, Sinhagad Road, was riding his two-wheeler when it slipped and fell under a PMPML bus this morning around 6:30 am. Waghmare managed to jump off his bike and was injured in the incident. He is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The Public Works Department completed work on Sinhagad Road between Nanded Phata and Kirkatwadi Phata a year ago but left a gap of one to 1.5 feet for bifurcation, which has proven to be very dangerous.

The lack of safety measures and the absence of a divider has resulted in frequent accidents, with drivers failing to anticipate the gap. This lack of attention by the Public Works Department is putting citizens’ lives at risk.

According to the bus driver, Bharat Zhurange, the young man’s bike slipped, and he jumped just in time. The bus was stopped using the brakes, but by then the two-wheeler had already fallen under it. Fortunately, there were only seven to eight passengers on the bus at the time.

As soon as the news of the accident broke, Police Inspector Sadashiv Shelar of Haveli Police Station, Police Naik Ashok Taru, and ASI Dilip Shinde arrived on the scene. It is imperative that the Public Works Department takes swift action to ensure the safety of citizens on Sinhagad Road and prevent such accidents in the future.
