Mohammedwadi, 6th June 2026: Residents of the Undri-Handewadi area have raised serious concerns over damaged roads, recurring pipeline leakages, and hazardous potholes allegedly caused by ongoing work under the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) 24×7 water supply project.

According to residents, several road stretches near Raheja Reserve Premier, Dorabjee Mall, D-Mart, and Ganga Kingston have been severely damaged due to repeated leakages and testing of newly laid water pipelines. Large potholes and trench-like excavations have reportedly remained unattended for weeks, causing inconvenience and posing safety risks to motorists and pedestrians.

Former PMC Education Board member Ashok Mehendale has written to PMC officials, highlighting the issue and seeking immediate corrective action. He alleged that multiple defects have been observed in the pipeline network installed by the contractor, including gaps between pipe sections, damage to pipelines during road construction works, and bursting of pipeline joints due to water and air pressure.

“The leakages have resulted in the wastage of thousands of litres of treated water. Newly constructed cement concrete roads, side strips, and footpaths have been damaged, while dangerous potholes have emerged across the locality,” Mehendale said.

He further warned that the deteriorating road conditions are putting commuters at risk.

“Several two-wheeler riders have reportedly slipped or been thrown off their vehicles after hitting these potholes, resulting in injuries. Car drivers often make sudden manoeuvres to avoid potholes, increasing the risk of accidents. With the monsoon approaching, immediate repairs are necessary to prevent serious mishaps,” he added.

Residents claim that road restoration work has remained pending for nearly three weeks despite repeated complaints. Large potholes have been reported in front of Raheja Reserve Premier, while trench-like damage has been observed near the water supply tanks opposite Dorabjee Mall and the adjoining D-Mart. Similar conditions have also been reported on the road leading to Ganga Kingston.

Residents have further pointed out that side strips along several roads remain dug up, with heaps of soil and debris left unattended. They have urged PMC authorities and the project contractor to undertake immediate restoration work before the onset of the monsoon.

The residents have demanded time-bound action to repair damaged roads, plug pipeline leakages, and ensure public safety. They warned that any further delay could lead to more accidents and disrupt daily life in the rapidly growing residential corridor of Undri and Handewadi.
