Pune University Decides To Recruit Contract Professors After Fall In NIRF Ranking
Pune, 9th August 2022: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has decided to recruit professors after falling into the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings.
According to this, 132 professors will be recruited on a contractual basis, and due to the suspension of professor recruitment by the state government, the university has to bear the financial stress of professor recruitment.
Almost 55 per cent of the posts for professors in the university are vacant. It has affected the academic performance as well as the ranking of the university. The university’s national-level position has slipped in the recently released NIRF rankings. The vacancy of professors was an important factor in it. Therefore, the university has decided to take measures in this regard.
As a part of it, 132 professors will be recruited on a contractual basis. Out of the 140 seats filled from the university fund, those seats will also be filled after reviewing the vacancies.
Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr Sanjeev Sonawane said, “There is an urgent need to improve the teacher-student ratio. Therefore, the recruitment of 132 professors on a contractual basis will be completed by September 5. So that the faculty will be available once the admission process is completed and the academic work starts.”
