Pune, 18th January 2025: The double-decker flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Chowk is progressing rapidly, with the first phase set to open for traffic in early April, according to Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole. The flyover section from Aundh to Ganeshkhind Road will be operational by the first week of April, while the section towards Baner and Pashan is expected to open by 15th June.

Key points:

1. The Aundh to Ganeshkhind Road ramp will be completed and opened in early April.
2. The Ganeshkhind Road to Baner and Pashan section is scheduled to open by June 15.
3. Metro construction work is progressing simultaneously with the flyover.
4. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the University Chowk area.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Shirole, who has been actively involved in expediting the project for the past two years, inspected the site today along with officials. He acknowledged the challenges faced during construction, including land acquisition issues and the need for road widening in certain areas.

The MLA highlighted that despite reduced traffic speed, the area is not experiencing severe congestion thanks to effective traffic management by the police. He expressed confidence that the flyover would be fully operational before the monsoon season.

The Ganeshkhind Road side of the flyover is already complete, with ramps on both the Aundh and Baner sides nearing completion. Land acquisition for the Baner Road ramp was recently finalized, and construction is expected to begin soon, with completion estimated within five months.

Shirole mentioned that there are some challenges in acquiring land for the ramp on the Pashan side, but he expects these issues to be resolved within the next fortnight through discussions with the municipal corporation and other stakeholders.

The completion of this flyover project is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the University Chowk area and improve connectivity between Aundh, Baner, Pashan, and Ganeshkhind Roads.

Present during the inspection were PMRDA Chief Engineer Rinaj Pathan, officials from Tata Company (responsible for Metro construction), Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic Branch) Amol Zende, and other senior police officials.
