Pune, 14th October 2021: The student union of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has demanded the university administration to start the allotment procedure for hostels immediately so that any student travelling to Pune would not have to bear the cost of room rent, PG, meals and other miscellaneous things.

All the hostels on the SPPU campus were closed from March 2020 due to the onset of the pandemic.

The hostels were also used to house, treat and quarantine corona patients. Therefore, sanitation, pest control of these hostels should be done as soon as possible so that the students are equipped to stay and get all the facilities immediately before the allotment procedure begins, a letter to the authorities states.

“I have written a letter to the department of Social justice and Assistance regarding this matter. We request the authorities to start the admission procedure of hostels for students as early as possible”, said Kalamkar Shete, Vice President, Yuvak Kranti Dal, Maharashtra.

Higher Education Minister Uday Samant had announced on 13th October to start all colleges in Maharashtra from October 20. Now 50% of students can attend college and a special vaccination campaign will be organized for the students.
