Pune: Viman Nagar Citizens Forum Vows Not To Pay Property Taxes Till PMC Provides Provides Basic Services

Viman Nagar, 26th August 2021: The Viman Nagar Citizen Forum has taken a stand that they will not pay property tax unless the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) solves the problems in the Viman Nagar area and provides basic facilities of everyone’s rights.

A letter in this regard has been sent to the municipal commissioner, mayor, and tax collection department. In particular, despite five reminders in four months through this organization, there has been no move from the administrative level and the problems in the area continue, the letter states.

Senior RTI Activist Qaneez Sukhrani, who is the coordinator of Viman Nagar Citizens Forum, said that she has sent letters regarding problems like garbage lying on the side of the roads in the Viman Nagar area. In many places, the filth is lying around resulting in various diseases. PMC trimmed branches of the trees that are still lying around.

There are also many problems with roads in Viman Nagar. In many places, the covers of the chamber are missing. There are potholes on the road. Many footpaths are not walkable. There have been encroachments everywhere. The street lights are off. The railings on the footpath are broken. The pillars installed for the road dividers’ are broken, she informed.

Sukhrani sent her first letter in May and since then has sent 4-5 reminders but she did not get any results.

After her letters, PMC Assistant commissioner of tax collection Vilas Kande has written to the solid waste department, road department, encroachment department, garden department asking for resolution of problems in the area.

PMC road department chief Vijay Kulkarni said tenders have been floated for repairing roads and footpaths in Viman Nagar.

Nagar Road Ward Office Assistant commissioner Suhas Jagtap said instructions have been issued to all departments in connection with Sukhrani’s letter.
