Pune: Wagholi Man Scales Tower to Press Demands, Returns Hours Later
Wagholi, 9th August 2025: A bizarre scene unfolded around 2 p.m. on Awhadwadi Road when a heavily intoxicated man climbed a tower, drawing both amusement and concern from locals. Residents attempted to persuade him to come down, but he refused to listen.
He was identified as 32-year-old Ramdas Dhotre, a resident of Wagholi — now something of a local celebrity for his unusual and persistent form of protest.
Police and fire brigade personnel soon arrived, as a curious crowd gathered to watch the spectacle. The man, however, remained uncooperative, demanding that officials “show him documents” and ignoring repeated appeals to descend. Eventually, he climbed down on his own. Police took him to the station, recorded his statement, and released him.
The drama, however, was far from over. Shortly after being freed, he climbed the tower again. According to locals, this was not his first such stunt — he had done it at least three times before. While some residents speculated it was due to marital disputes, others claimed he had been assaulted.
Speaking to reporters, the man revealed his grievance: the plot of land he lives on had not been transferred to his name, and in protest, he had previously scaled the tower of the Mantralaya (state government) building as well.
