Pune: Warning Boards Installed by Talegaon Dabhade Police After Bhushi Dam Tragedy
Reported By Varad Bhatkhande
Somatane, 2nd July 2024: Following the tragic incident on Sunday (30th June), where five people were swept away by overflowing water from Bhushi Dam near Lonavala in Pune District, resulting in their deaths, the Talegaon Dabhade Police have taken preventive measures. They have installed warning boards advising against entering the Indrayani River, especially during the rainy season.
During the rainy season, Kundmala near Somatane is a popular spot visited by many due to its natural embankment (Kund) and elevated water levels. Despite the availability of a narrow bridge, locals often opt for the risky route of crossing the embankment itself on their vehicles, which has resulted in previous fatalities.
In response to the Bhushi Dam incident, police have placed notice boards at various spots, including Kundmala, cautioning against approaching river waters, swimming, or taking selfies due to dangerous currents and eddies. They have also warned about slippery areas and declared the bridge between Indori and Shelarwadi over the Indrayani River unsafe for travel.
