Pune 10th Sept 2023: The ghat areas in the district have received a good rainfall in the last three to four days but it does not seem to have a major impact on the water storage in the dams supplying water to Pune. The official data shared by the irrigation department reveals that the water storage in the dams in Khadakwasla cluster has been reduced over 1% in the last 10 days.

According to the officials, the water storage in four dams Khadakwasla, Warasgaon, Temghar and Panshet was reported 94.47% (27.54 TMC) on August 30 which has reduced to 93.75% (27.33 TMC) on September 10. This shows that the heavy rainfall reported in ghat areas in the last couple of days has not reached the dams. Irrigation department has reported 48.86% (0.96 TMC) water storage in Khadakwasla dam on September 10, 99.86% (10.63 TMC) in Panshet Dam, 99.55% (12.76 TMC) in Warasgaon and 80.03% (2.97 TMC) storage was reported in Temghar dam.

The district administration has already announced that the citizens will not face water cuts immediately but the reducing water storage in the dams raises concerns. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted ‘heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas’ for today while light to moderate rain has been predicted for the next two days.
