Pune: Water Pipeline Damaged During Metro Work At University Chowk, Supply To Over 50K Families Affected
Pune 10th Sept 2023: Over 50,000 citizens living in Aundh Road, Bhau Patil Road, Chikalwadi, Manaji Bugh, Khadki Station, Pune University and adjoining areas did not get the water supply on Saturday morning after the water pipeline that supplies water to these areas was damaged near Modern School during the ongoing work of the Metro line between Shivajinagar and Hinjewadi. The Pune Municipal Corporation(PMC) officials were put into action immediately after the incident and the supply was restored in the afternoon on the same day.
However, the officials have alleged that the public utilities are being damaged at many locations during the Metro work and the persons responsible to carry out the work are not taking proper care while doing their job. The damage according to PMC is causing troubles to the citizens and the civic body has to deploy its employees to repair it. The civic body has now decided to impose a fine on the authorities carrying out Metro work in the area for damaging the utility lines and the water supply department will write a letter to the concerned authorities.
It may be noted that the water line in Aundh area was damaged last year during the Metro work due to which the water supply of the areas was disrupted for almost three days and the residents were supplied water with the tankers. The Shivajinagar to Hinjewadi Metro line is being developed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
