Pune: Woman Killed By Leopard In Shirur Taluka

Shirur, 3rd February 2023: In Bombemala (Kurhade Vasti) area of Pimparkhed, taluka Shirur on Wednesday (February 1) between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm, a 22-year-old woman, Pooja Jalinder Jadhav, was attacked and killed by a leopard.

An unfortunate incident has taken place where a leopard attacked this woman and dragged her to the nearby sugarcane field and ate a part of her neck. This is the fourth incident where a leopard has attacked and killed a human being in the Ghod Kukadi river island area and several civilians have been injured in leopard attacks in the past. Therefore, the issue of the safety of the citizens along with the farmers here has come to the fore.

This woman is a resident of Takewadi, Kalamb (now Ambegaon) in Pune district and her husband Jalinder Maruti Jadhav (26) and brother-in-law Vishwas Balu Jadhav (38) were traveling on a motorcycle from Phakte to Kalamb village when they stopped for a toilet break at Bombay Mala area. The woman was attacked by a leopard and dragged into the sugarcane field in front of her husband and brother-in-law. After that, after the two screamed, the citizens then gathered, searched, and found Pooja’s body in the sugarcane field.

Due to this incident, an atmosphere of fear has been created in the area and sugarcane cultivation has increased to a large extent. Roads are passing by the side of that farm and laborers and schoolchildren are coming and going on the road. Three incidents have happened in Jambut in the past and this is the fourth incident of an attack on a person. Leopard attacks are increasing in this area and Sarpanch Rajendra Dabhade has demanded permanent settlement. Forest Examination Officer Manohar Mhasekar, Assistant Police Inspector Amol Panhalkar, and Sunil Ugle visited the spot.
