Pune, 7th May 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will provide abundant water this summer for Baner-Balewadi region, which has been selected as a part of PAN City in the Central Government’s Smart City Scheme. As many as 22.500 km of water pipelines have been completed including the laying of about 23 km of transmission line to supply water directly from the Warje water treatment plant. The remaining 500 meters will be completed in the next 10 days. Therefore, as many as 5 to 7 lakh citizens of this area will get relief from tankers.

Anirudh Pavaskar, head of the Water Supply Department of the municipal corporation, said that the work is pending near Chandni Chowk, Dukkar Khind, and Sus Khind. Balewadi in the first phase and after that, the problem of the Baner area will be solved in the next week. 98 per cent of the work of laying 23 kilometers of important water pipes for Baner-Balewadi villages has been completed.

“There were many difficulties as this work was done on the highway in many places and also in some areas the work had to be done across the river. However, this work has finally been completed and the water problem in this area will be solved by the end of May,” Pavaskar informed further.

Earlier, the Municipal Corporation was releasing water from Warje Water Center to the tank in Chandni Chowk to supply water to the Baner-Balewadi area. From there this water was going to the Pashan tank. After that, this water from Pashan would go to the freshwater tank and then go to the Pancard Club (Balewadi) and the five lakh liter tank, after which this water would be distributed.

However, now the municipality has set up a brake pressure tank at Chandni Chowk itself and the water from this place will now go directly to the three tanks set up at Baner-Balewadi by gravity along the Pune-Bangalore highway. The capacity of these tanks is about 1.15 crore liters. This will stop the reverse journey of water for Baner-Balewadi.
