Pune: Youth Sentenced 10 Years Imprisonment For Raping Cousin Sister In Train

Pune, 27th August 2022: A court has sentenced a youth for ten years of rigorous and a fine of Rs 5,000 for sexually abusing his cousin sister in a running train and trying to kill her. Eight years ago this terrible crime took place in the Sampark Kranti Express running from Haridwar to Pune.

Judge SS Gulhane delivered the verdict, convicting the 22-year-old accused, an engineer in the merchant navy, of rape under Section 376 (2) (f) and attempt to murder under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code.

The victim had filed a complaint with Bhosari MIDC police station. The incident took place on July 14, 2015 in Sampark Kranti Express and the next day at the victim’s aunt’s house in Pune.

On the day of the incident, the victim girl, her aunt and uncle were coming to Pune by train. Before reaching Bhopal railway station, the victim went to the toilet in the train. While coming out, the accused pushed her into the toilet and sexually assaulted her. He threatened to kill if she revealed this incident to anyone. The frightened victim narrated the incident to her aunt and friend on her arrival in Pune. The next day the victim’s friend was at her aunt’s house when the victim was telling them what had happened in the train and the uncle came there. He pushed the victim to the ground and tried to strangle her. This time when the aunt and friend of the victim tried to rescue her, the accused beat them up and ran away from the house.

In this case, the accused was booked by police for rape, attempted murder, intimidation and various other charges.

A case was registered in MIDC and Bhopal Railway Police Station under various sections.

Senior Police Inspector Shivaji Gaware, Police Inspector Pradeep Patil and Assistant Police Inspector Narayan Pawar investigated the crime and filed a charge sheet against the accused.

Additional public prosecutor Pushkar Sapre worked in this case where the testimony of aunt and friend proved important. Eleven witnesses were examined by the prosecution. In that, the testimony of the victim’s aunt and friend became important. Sapre argued that the accused tried to kill maternal sister by raping her, and he should be given more severe punishment. Taking this into account, the court sentenced the accused.
