Railway News: 52 Trains Cancelled, Multiple Services Disrupted Due to Heavy Rain and Flooding between Jammu & Punjab
New Delhi, 29 August 2025: Northern Railway has cancelled 52 trains and disrupted multiple services following heavy rainfall and flooding that suspended rail traffic between Kathua and Madhopur in Punjab.
The cancellations affect major routes connecting New Delhi with Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and other northern states. Among the cancelled services are the Jammu Tawi Rajdhani Express, multiple Shatabdi Express trains, and several passenger services.
Rail traffic suspension between Kathua-Madhopur has forced authorities to cancel 38 trains completely while short-terminating 10 services and short-originating 4 others from alternative stations.
Key cancelled services include trains connecting New Delhi to Jammu, the Barmer-Jammutavi Shalimar Malani Express, Bhagat Ki Kothi-Jammutavi Express, and Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Jammutavi Duronto Express. Several trains operated by Mata Vaishno Devi Katra have also been suspended.
The disruption has affected the Pathankot-Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan route, with multiple trains on this sector being cancelled. Services to major destinations including Amritsar, Ghazipur City, Subedarganj, and Yog Nagari Rishikesh have been impacted.
Some trains have been short-originated from stations including Ludhiana Junction, New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Roorkee, Ambala, Amritsar, Delhi Safdarjung, and Pathankot Cantt to maintain partial connectivity.

Passengers have been advised to contact Rail Madad helpline number 139 or use the NTES app for updated information regarding their travel plans.
The weather-related disruption highlights the vulnerability of rail networks during monsoon season, particularly affecting connectivity to Jammu and Kashmir and northern Punjab regions.
