Pune, September 3, 2020: Daily commuters of Pune and Mumbai are demanding to start the train between the two cities. The train service has been suspended from the last five months due to the Coronavirus disease (COVID19) pandemic. Also, no local trains are running from Pune to Lonavla. However, the railway administration is fully prepared to resume the train services, but the state government has not demanded yet, railway officials said.

Pune Railway Divisional Manager Renu Sharma clarified that the railway is ready to start train between these two cities, but it is up to the state government to demand the same, DRM Shama said while addressing a virtual press conference organised today.

During the press conference, she highlighted the progress of the railway during the lockdown period. The meeting was attended by Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) Saharsh Bajpayee, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Sunil Mishra, Senior Divisional Operation Manager Swapnil Nila, Senior Divisional Engineer PK Chaturvedi, Divisional Security Commissioner Uday Pawar, Divisional Engineer Vikas Kumar.

Last week, the state government had started state transport (ST) bus service in Maharashtra. The response of the passengers has been increasing. Even, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahanagar Limited (PMPML) has started running buses in the city. Also, the state government has allowed special trains to make stops in the state. However, people are not allowed to travel within the state by special trains.

Also, the express, local and passenger trains connecting various cities in the state have not yet received the green signal from the state government.

“For the last three months, 14 to 15 people have been travelling between Pune and Mumbai by private bus. It costs Rs 700 per day. It is very inconvenient,” said a daily commuter Ankita Deshpande.

Another commuter, Suresh Jadhav said, “The state government must demand to run morning and evening trains between Pune and Mumbai. Hundreds of people commute between the two cities for work.”
