Rain Returns To Pune, IMD Issues Orange And Yellow Alert For Next Four Days

Pune 14th Sept 2023: After a short dry spell, the rainfall activity is set to resume in Pune and majority of the districts in Maharashtra as the Indian Meteorological Department has issued yellow and orange alerts for the next four days. This brings a sign of relief for Pune district and adjoining areas as the farmers and citizens have been worried due to less rainfall reported this year.

According to IMD, the dictict is likely to witness ‘heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas’ on September 15 while ‘heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas’ has been predicted for September 16, 17 and 18. Along with Pune, the IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall in Kolhapur, Satara, Auranagabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Amravati etc districts.

According to officials, a low-pressure area has been formed over the Bay of Bengal bringing good signs to the majority of the areas in the country. Maharashtra has so far reported less rainfall this year with several districts reporting far less than average rainfall. This led to a crisis situation for the farmers especially in Marathwada region where the crops were reportedly damaged due to shortage in rain. Demand to declare drought was also raised by activists and political leaders.
