“Rename Pune Metro Stations” – Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Calls For Heritage Tribute
Pune, 23rd July 2023: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has stirred public interest by advocating for the renaming of two metro stations in Pune.
The party, led by Raj Thackeray, is demanding that the Shivaji Nagar metro station be renamed as “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Nagar Metro Station,” and the Mandai station be renamed as “Mahatma Phule Metro Station.”
Highlighting Pune’s status as the cultural and educational hub of Maharashtra, the MNS city unit, led by Sainath Babar and Babu Wagaskar, stressed the importance of preserving the city’s history and heritage and respecting the sentiments of Puneites. The renaming initiative seeks to honor the esteemed personalities of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, who are revered and celebrated across Maharashtra.
The MNS believes that retaining the original station names, “Shivaji Nagar” and “Mandai,” would be a disservice to these great figures and the Maharashtrian community.
