Pune, 14th July 2023: In a concerted effort to bolster security measures and safeguard railway property and passengers nationwide, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) recently concluded an extensive month-long pan-India drive. The campaign, which took place throughout June 2023, aimed to crack down on offenders and strengthen the overall safety of the railway network.

Under the three-pronged approach, the RPF targeted specific areas of concern to ensure a comprehensive security overhaul. The first phase involved taking decisive action against receivers of stolen railway property and individuals harboring criminals engaged in theft or criminal misappropriation. Through strategic operations and intelligence-led initiatives, the RPF aimed to dismantle the illicit networks responsible for the illegal acquisition and subsequent sale of railway assets. As a result, 90 receivers of stolen railway property were apprehended, and 80 cases were registered. Notably, stolen railway property worth Rs.5.7 lakhs was successfully recovered during the drive.

The second phase of the campaign focused on preventing and detecting crimes committed by passengers within railway premises. Leveraging advanced technology and data analysis techniques, the RPF harnessed the power of digital footprints, data processing, and CCTV footage. By leveraging databases such as CDR/SDR/TDD, combined with information from the PRS database, the RPF aimed to swiftly identify and apprehend criminals, thereby fostering a safer environment for railway passengers. Throughout the month-long drive, a staggering 493 cases were detected, leading to the arrest of 484 accused individuals involved in crimes ranging from theft of passenger belongings, robbery, and crimes against women, to the illegal sale of railway tickets.

Recognizing the significance of streamlined legal procedures and the need for proper case property disposal, the RPF’s third phase centered on expediting the disposal of case properties. By ensuring the swift and efficient resolution of ongoing cases, the RPF maintained the integrity of investigations and upheld the principles of justice. A total of 426 case properties were successfully disposed of during the month-long drive, further contributing to the efficacy of the RPF’s efforts.
