Savitribai Phule Pune University Drops to 35th Rank in NIRF 2023 Rankings

Pune, 5th June 2023: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) witnessed a decline in its ranking according to the recently announced National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) for 2023 by the Union Ministry of Education. Placed at the 35th position this year, SPPU’s ranking has dropped from its previous position of 25th in the NIRF rankings. The university achieved an overall performance score of 55.78%.

The annual NIRF ranking, unveiled by the education minister, evaluates the performance of universities nationwide. SPPU has experienced a continuous decline in its ranking over the past three years. In 2020, it secured the 12th position, followed by the 11th position in 2021, and a subsequent drop to 25th in 2022. However, this year’s ranking has placed SPPU at the 35th position, marking a further decline.

The top-ranking institutions in the country, as per the 2023 NIRF rankings, are as follows: Indian Institute of Madras claimed the first position with a score of 86.69%, Indian Institute of Science secured the second position with 83.09%, and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi obtained the third position with 82.16%. Notably, Pune’s Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) was ranked 34th on the list.
