Pune, 7th February 2024: In a significant move aimed at enhancing employability and fostering entrepreneurship among its student body, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) unveiled an Internship Portal on Wednesday. The ceremony, presided over by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Suresh Gosavi, marked the inauguration of the portal which seeks to provide students with valuable opportunities for practical learning and professional development. Joining Prof. Gosavi were dignitaries including Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Parag Kalkar, In-charge Registrar Prof. Dr. Vijay Khare, Manager of Information Technology Room Nitin Patil, and Chief Executive Officer of SPPU Edutech Foundation, Deepak Hardikar.

Establishing the internship portal aligns with the directives laid out in the new education policy, which emphasizes incorporating practical experiences such as internships and on-the-job training into academic curricula. Recognizing this imperative, the University Grants Commission mandated the establishment of internship facilities in all universities.

Accordingly, SPPU has inaugurated an internship portal to facilitate access to diverse internship opportunities across industries, businesses, cooperatives, and NGOs. The first phase of the portal rollout commenced with various organizations registering available internships, free of charge. Subsequently, the university plans to facilitate student registrations through college nodal officers in the second phase, enabling students to explore internship opportunities near their educational institutions and residences. Notably, the services offered by the portal will be accessible to all students within the SPPU area, encompassing Pune, Nashik, and Ahmednagar, without any financial constraints.

Commenting on the significance of the internship portal, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Suresh Gosavi remarked, “Through the internship portal, SPPU has provided students with a hands-on opportunity to apply the knowledge taught in the classroom in practice and business.” This sentiment was echoed by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Parag Kalkar, who emphasized, “SPPU has arranged a free online system to implement all the new concepts like internship, on-the-job training, and job shadowing. In the first phase of this initiative, the university intends to register all establishments and institutions offering internships.”
