SC Questions Center on Measures Against Pornographic Content in Ranveer Allahbadia Case

New Delhi, 18th February 2025: The petition of Ranveer Allahabadia, who made indecent remarks during the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’, was heard on Tuesday. During this, the Supreme Court expressed displeasure over Ranveer Allahabadia’s statement.

The Supreme Court made a strong comment on YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia. The court has provided interim protection from arrest in connection with several FIRs registered against Ranveer Allahbadia. However, in the meantime, the court also expressed concern over the obscene content being continuously shared on social media

SC Hopes for Action from Center

The Supreme Court, while hearing the plea of Ranveer Allahabadia, asked if the central government was considering taking any steps to address the issue of pornographic content available on YouTube and other social media platforms. The court also directed the government to consider introducing regulation on such content available on these platforms.

What did the Court Say?

The Supreme Court said the government was expected to act on the issue. The court said that provided the government is ready to fix the issue, they would be happy; if not, they would not let the situation stand as is, with YouTube channels and other platforms misusing it. The bench emphasized the need to recognize the significance and sensitivity of the issue at hand.

Background of the Case

The Supreme Court’s remarks were made in reaction to comments made inappropriately by YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia, when he appeared on India’s Got Latent, as a judge. The court was hearing Allahabadia’s petition, in which he sought to consolidate multiple FIRs filed against him and requested interim protection from arrest.

During the hearing, the bench strongly criticized Allahabadia, stating that Allahabadia’s acts would bring shame to his parents and society as a whole. The court also remarked that his comments also revealed a corrupt mindset, which he openly expressed during the program.
