Schneider Electric India Foundation kicks off the 12th Edition of its ‘Green Championship’ Programme for schools

New Delhi, December 11, 2018: Schneider Electric India Foundation (SEIF) – the social commitment of Schneider Electric India is set to facilitate the 12thedition of ‘Green Championship’ under its ‘Conserve My Planet’ programme. ‘Conserve My Planet’ is an educational program conceptualised to address the crucial energy crisis that the world is facing and to educate school children about the importance of conserving energy along with protecting the environment.

In this edition, the Conserve My Planet programme would be conducted in specific schools of India spread across 10 cities namely Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Delhi, Chandigarh Mumbai, Pune, Goa and Kolkata. All participating schools are meticulously selected for the programme and stand together as a proud community called the ‘Green Republic’ and are termed ‘Green Ambassadors’.

In the past decade, SEIF has successfully trained more than 50,000 Green Ambassadors in over 500 school across India. Speaking about the initiative Venkat Garimella, VP Corporate Strategy and CSR, Schneider Electric India said: “Schneider Electric firmly believes that access to energy is a basic human right and with our commitment to this belief, we have been developing innovative programmes to conserve energy. Conserve my energy programme is aimed at inculcating the thought of energy conservation right at the grassroots level. The programme enables students to design and develop working models on efficient energy management. In the process they get acquainted with the energy conservation techniques and also share their learnings with their families. This programme helps us share the message of energy conservation amongst a large audience.”

Schneider Electric India Foundation trains the Green Ambassadors to undertake energy audits, evaluate energy consumption at homes, and conduct green certification of schools while building energy-conscious communities around them. This helps them to receive industry exposure and contribute to hands-on projects, while participating in numerous contests and team activities such as presentations, group discussions and preparation of energy audit reports of their campuses via interactive classroom sessions and unique outdoor activities.

Some of the schools hosting the Green Championship this year include; Ambience Public School – Delhi, Malviya Convent school – Jaipur, The Pupil Saveetha Eco School – Chennai, Harvest International School – Bangalore, St Wilfred college – Mumbai, VIikhe Patil School – Pune, St Peter’s Residential School – Hyderabad, Calcutta Public School – Kolkata.
