Security guard arrested for Infosys engineer murder in Pune

Pune : Hours after a 25-year-old woman techie was allegedly murdered inside the Infosys office in the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi on Sunday evening, Pune city police arrested a security guard in the case.

The woman techie had asked him not to stare at her or else he may loose his job if she complains. After that he followed her in the room where her body was found.

Police have identified the deceased as Rasila Raju OP, a native of Ojhampoyil under Perambra police station in Kozhikode district of Kerala. She lived here as paying guest in Hinjawadi phase 3.

The arrested security guard Bhaben Bharali Saikiya (27) who hails from Assam, was arrested in Mumbai.

According to police, it was holiday in Infosys on Sunday. But she had come to office as her team was tasked with work in coordination with a team from Bangalore office. She was working alone in the conference room on the ninth floor in building no. 10 of Infosys office in Hinjawadi phase 2. The CCTV footage shows that the guard who was deployed in the same building, had followed her once inside the room at 5 pm and later had gone there several times alone. The guard had entered the room unauthorized.

The incident came to light when a manager from the Bangalore office called Abhijit Kothari (28), a senior associate consultant, in whose team Rasila worked. Kothari was working from home in Vadgaonsheri. The manager had informed Kothari that Rasila was not working for the last one hour and she was not receiving phone calls. Kothari called the office and sent a guard to check her when it was found that she was murdered. And the guard Saikiya was missing with his phone switched off.

Kothari rushed to office and checked the footage and later lodged an FIR against Saikiya with Hinjawadi police station.
