Pune, 24th March 2026: Maharashtra School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse on Monday proposed introducing ‘Pink Rooms’ in schools across the state to promote the health, safety and overall well-being of girl students.

Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Rani Lakshmibai Self-Defence Campaign’ at the S.P. College ground in Pune, Bhuse said schools must move beyond academics and create a secure and supportive environment for girls. He noted that self-defence training, along with dedicated facilities such as Pink Rooms, could play an important role in empowering students.

“Self-defence is not just physical training but an important life skill. Every girl should be able to protect herself and stand on her own feet,” Bhuse said, adding that such initiatives help build confidence and instil discipline among students.

The proposed Pink Rooms are expected to function as safe spaces for girls within school premises, addressing their health and personal needs while providing a sense of security.

The programme was attended by several dignitaries, including Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure and MLA Hemant Rasane. During the event, noted trainer Shifuji Shaurya Bharadwaj and his team conducted self-defence training for nearly 12,000 girl students from 476 schools across Pune.

Officials said initiatives like these are important for providing practical learning opportunities and encouraging the holistic development of students. The campaign aims to help girls become more confident, fearless and self-reliant, while the proposed Pink Rooms are expected to strengthen support systems in schools.

Bhuse also emphasised that such initiatives should not remain symbolic and must be implemented effectively across schools throughout the state.
