Senior Army Officer Dies By Suicide At Pune Railway Station

Pune, 18th April 2021: A Brigadier-rank officer of the Indian Army allegedly died by suicide at the Pune railway station today.

The deceased has been identified as Brig Anant Naik (57), a native of Bhubaneswar in Odisha. He was posted as head of the administration department at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Wanowrie.

According to Government Railway Police (GRP), Brig Naik had reached the railway station in an Army vehicle. He asked the driver to wait and told him that he was going to the Movement Control Office (MCO).

The CCTV footage shows that he had attempted suicide under Chennai Express but did not succeed. Later, he came under the wheels of the Udyan Express engine at 12.15 pm near platform no. 3.

After getting information, officials from AFMC, Army and GRP Superintendent of Police Sadanand Wayse-Patil reached the spot.

Police said that no suicide note was found in his possession. His family was informed. The post-mortem will be conducted on Monday.

Further investigation is going on to ascertain the reason behind his extreme step, police said.
