Pune, 21st April 2026: In a bizarre and humorous incident in Pune, a 26-year-old man allegedly pretended to have been selected in the Pune City Police in an attempt to improve his marriage prospects. The accused, identified as Rishikesh Raju Jadhav, a resident of Narhe Road, reportedly put up congratulatory flex banners across the area claiming he had joined the police force.

Jadhav also uploaded photographs of himself in a police uniform on WhatsApp status to create an impression. However, the deception did not last long and eventually came to the notice of police officials.

Police said the man allegedly resorted to the stunt because he was unable to find a suitable marriage match and wanted to impress prospective brides and their families by posing as a police officer.

According to police, he works in the vegetable business and had aspired to become a police constable since childhood. He had reportedly made attempts to join the force, but could not qualify due to height requirements.

Meanwhile, his family had begun searching for a bride for him. Under pressure, he allegedly told his mother that he had been recruited into the police department.

To make the story convincing, sweets were distributed in the housing society and a large flex banner was installed outside his home. The banner reportedly carried the Maharashtra Police emblem, police-themed background images and congratulatory text announcing his selection to Pune City Police.

He also posed in police uniform for photographs and circulated them on WhatsApp.

As word spread in the locality that a youth from their jurisdiction had become a police officer, officials from Narhe police station reportedly visited his residence to congratulate him. During inquiries, however, the truth came to light and the entire fabrication was exposed.

Police have registered a case against Jadhav for falsely impersonating a public servant, displaying misleading banners and deceiving the public. Further investigation is underway.
