So Far, 183 Technical Glitches in Indian Flights in 2025; Government Reveals in Parliament
New Delhi, 28th July 2025: Technical snags in Indian airlines have come under sharp focus as the Union Government informed Parliament that 183 such incidents have been reported till July 23, 2025. The data was shared in response to growing public and parliamentary concern following a tragic Air India crash on June 12 near Ahmedabad that claimed the lives of 260 passengers.
The aircraft involved, a Boeing 787-8, was en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick when it crashed shortly after takeoff. The incident prompted India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), to intensify safety inspections and audits across all Indian carriers.
Technical Faults Over the Years:
According to Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, the number of technical glitches in 2025 (till July 23) stands at 183, while:
-2024 saw 421 cases,
-2023 had 448,
-2022 recorded 528, and
-2021 had 514 incidents.
This marks a 6% reduction in technical issues in 2024 compared to 2023, as highlighted by Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol.
Rising Passenger Complaints:
Passenger dissatisfaction also continues to be a concern. The DGCA has received:
-3,925 complaints so far in 2025,
-4,016 in 2024,
-A peak of 5,513 in 2023,
-3,782 in 2022, and
-4,113 in 2021.
The government emphasized that DGCA operates under a robust and evolving regulatory framework, aligned with international aviation safety standards set by bodies like ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) and EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency).
In total, the DGCA has carried out 2,094 safety inspections and investigations over the past five years in response to serious technical failures and anomalies.
