New Delhi, 9th May 2025: Emergency alerts are official warnings sent by government agencies to inform the public about serious threats such as natural disasters, terrorist attacks, or missing persons. Unlike regular mobile notifications, these alerts use a special broadcast channel that can reach users instantly, even during heavy network congestion.

Authorities emphasized the critical role of emergency alert systems during such high-risk situations, urging citizens to ensure these alerts are enabled on their smartphones.

How to Turn on Emergency Alerts

1) For Android Users:
Open your phone’s Settings.
Tap on Safety and Emergency.
Select Wireless Emergency Alerts.
Turn on notifications for:
Extreme Weather Warnings
Imminent Threat Alerts
Public Safety Alerts
Test Alerts
If the option isn’t visible, use the search bar in settings to look for Wireless Emergency Alerts.

2) For iPhone Users:
Open Settings and go to Notifications.
Scroll down to the Government Alerts section.
Enable the toggles for emergency notifications.
On most iPhones, these alerts are turned on by default, but users are encouraged to verify settings to ensure readiness.
