Pune, 31st March 2024: As summer sets in, the influx of fruits and vegetables has dwindled, leading to fluctuations in market prices. The cost of potatoes, beans, and peas has surged due to the decrease in supply. Conversely, the prices of garlic, cucumber, cauliflowers, carrots, Moringa, and Totapuri unripe mango have witnessed a decline. Traders have reported stability in the prices of other fruits and vegetables.

On Sunday (31st March), approximately 90 to 100 truckloads of fruits and vegetables arrived at the wholesale market in Shree Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard from both local and out-of-state sources. Notable imports included green chillies, Totapuri mango, cabbage, beans, groundnut legumes, sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, and garlic from various regions across the country.

Agent Vilas Bhujbal provided these insights into the arrivals. Additionally, produce from the Pune division, such as Satari ginger, lady’s finger, guar, tomatoes, green chillies, green capsicum, cabbage, flowers, cucumbers, onions, and potatoes from Indore, Agra, and local areas, contributed to the market’s inventory.

However, the arrival of leafy vegetables has declined due to the intensifying summer heat, resulting in sustained prices. In the vegetable section of the Market Yard, coriander was recorded at 1.5 lakh, while fenugreek stood at 60 thousand. Wholesale prices for leafy greens like Amaranth (Chaulai) from Rs. 400 to 700, Sorel from Rs. 600 to 800, Red Amaranth from Rs. 300 to 600, and Spinach from Rs. 800 to 1500, as reported by traders.
