Tech Mahindra Brings Technology Industry in Pune Together to Change the Narrative on Gender Inequality

Pune , October 5, 2019: For the first time in Pune, Leadership of over 75 Information Technology (IT) and other companies from across India came together for a first-of- its kind-special screening of this year’s National Award winning film ‘SON RISE’ – BEST FILM (non feature), a powerful gender rights film by award winning filmmaker, Vibha Bakshi. The film focuses on ordinary men doing the ‘extraordinary’ in the fight for gender equality and gender justice.
SON RISE has become more than a documentary. It is a movement to change the narrative on gender inequality. To take the movement forward, Tech Mahindra in partnership with NASSCOM brought tech industry leaders together to create awareness for gender parity and take the movement forward across the technology sector.

Commenting on the film, CP Gurnani, Managing Director & CEO, Tech Mahindra, said, “A gender-equal world starts with all of us coming together to respect, accept and celebrate all genders under one roof. Even in the corporate world, it requires all of us to be ‘in it’ together. “It is a very powerful initiative to have NASSCOM and the whole IT Industry come together to and demonstrate leadership in strengthening gender equality and setting an example for the rest of the country and the world to follow,” said, National Award Winning filmmaker and Honorary Doctorate Vibha Bakshi to a full house auditorium.
SON RISE, the film, is set in rural Haryana and showcases ordinary men, putting up an extraordinary fight to change the narrative on gender inequality and gender justice. From a forward-thinking village chief and father of two daughters, fighting for women to enter the male-dominated arena of local-politics – to a farmer who, in an arranged marriage, defies society by marrying a gang rape survivor.

SON RISE which has been unveiled by United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will be showcased as part of UN’s global HeForShe campaign, under which people of every gender stand in solidarity with women to create a bold, visible and united force for gender equality.
