Teen Dies by Suicide in Pimpri After Alleged Distress Over Phone Check by Father
Pimpri, 24th March 2026: A 16-year-old girl died by suicide in Pimpri after allegedly consuming poison following emotional distress linked to her father checking her mobile phone, police said.
The incident occurred on March 17 in the Jadhavwadi area of Chikhli, under the jurisdiction of Chikhli Police Station. The deceased has been identified as Pratiksha Anil Gaikwad.
According to police officials, the girl’s father had checked her phone earlier that day. While no objectionable content was found, investigators believe the act may have caused emotional distress.
Later that night, around 9 pm, she allegedly consumed poison at her residence. Family members noticed her deteriorating condition and rushed her to hospital, where she remained under treatment for several days.
She succumbed to her condition on March 22 while undergoing treatment. The post-mortem examination was conducted at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, after which the body was handed over to the family.
Senior Police Inspector Vitthal Salunke confirmed that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the incident.
