Three Terrorists Killed in ‘Operation Mahadev’ Amid Amarnath Yatra Security Push in Srinagar
Shrinagar, 28th July 2025: In a significant counter-terrorism operation launched amid heightened security for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra 2025, Indian security forces neutralized three terrorists in the Lidwas area of Harwan, Srinagar. The operation, code-named ‘Operation Mahadev’, was launched following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the forested region.
The Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and CRPF jointly initiated a cordon and search operation in the Mulnar forest area near Mahadev peak, a sensitive region during the annual pilgrimage season. According to officials, terrorists opened fire on the search party as they closed in, triggering a fierce encounter.
Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed via a social media post that the encounter began early Monday morning and continued for several hours. Senior officials from the Army and J&K Police were on the ground overseeing the operation.
According to the sources, three terrorists have been eliminated. The entire area has been sealed, and a large-scale search operation is ongoing to ensure no more threats remain.
Preliminary reports suggest the slain terrorists were affiliated with the banned Pakistan-backed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Their identities are being verified.
The operation comes at a time when the annual Amarnath pilgrimage is underway and security forces are on high alert to prevent any attempts to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the yatra.
Security forces have intensified counter-terror operations across the Kashmir valley, particularly around pilgrimage routes and tourist areas, following recent intelligence about attempts by terror groups to infiltrate and disrupt civil life.
