Pune, September 26, 2020: Symbiosis International (Deemed University), in commemoration of its 50th-anniversary celebrations, will organise Symbithon, a 50 km run/jog/walk taking place through the virtual realm from the 29th of September (World Heart Day) to the 10th of October (World Mental Health Day), 2020 featuring distinguished alumni, faculty, staff, students and corporates from all over the world.
The Department of Sports, Recreation and Wellness, in an attempt to promulgate physical fitness and mental health with a ‘Heart to Head’ theme during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, has introduced Symbithon, an app-based run/jog/walk event to a worldwide audience. Symbithon aims at creating a personal run/jog/walk that can be completed according to a participant’s leisure and location, and the results will be recorded through the convenience of a mobile app. In accordance with the objectives of the event, Symbithon commences on the occasion of World Heart Day and concludes on the occasion of World Mental Health Day.
Dr Rajiv Yeravdekar, Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences (FoHS), Symbiosis International (Deemed University) says, “Symbiosis is a health-promoting university and Symbithon is a twelve-day challenge which you could do by yourself and under your control. You could be running or walking anywhere, at your own pace, in any direction, as you want, enjoying every moment of it just on the strength of your feet, the courage of your lungs and the power of your mind.”
