Loni Kalbhor, October 15, 2020: Incessant downpours in Pune district which lasted for several hours had disrupted traffic on Pune-Solapur Highway where the parts of the road were flooded due to rise in the level of Ujani Dam on Wednesday night.

The rising water level from the dam has created a threat in Solapur district. The discharge from Ujani dam has been increased to 200,000 cusecs. “The traffic from Pune to Solapur has been stopped at Loni Kalbhor, and no one should travel towards Solapur”, informed the police officials.

The storm that started from the Bay of Bengal to the Arabian Sea has now reached Pune district. Heavy rains lashed many parts of the district since yesterday evening. The rural areas were devastated by the torrential rains that started with thunderstorms.

With the roads turning into rivers, the electricity has also been disrupted in many areas. About two feet of water has been accumulated on the highway between Bhigwan and Indapur areas. This has made the movement of vehicles slow. However, the movement resumed around 11 pm.

According to the District rural police, “Further decisions regarding the transportation will be made after looking at the water level on the road. Therefore, passengers are requested to avoid travel if possible.”
