Two Pune Residents Launch Mission to Help People Stuck in Traffic, Flood
Pune, October 25, 2019: Your infant kid is hungry and you are not having anything to feed. Even the thought leaves you in a chilled state. And if this happens to so many people in cold rainy evening, it’s really a matter of concern. Pune witnessed waterlogging and traffic jams in last few days.
Two of the Humanitarians: Guneet Kaur & Amarpreet Singh, under the name Ninebee, started an initiative from their own home. This drive was basically started to help the ladies stuck with their kids. But it eventually got bigger and wider.
Circulated a message with a helpline number and soon it got viral. Calls volume got unexpectedly high. A wide variety of requests and queries started pouring in. Callers were not only help seekers, but also there were a lot of calls just to confirm if such a service really exists as they could not believe that humanity still exists and all this was being done absolutely free. Few calls were to convey blessings and best wishes for the great initiative.
“Started with one car and a bike, we had to add more hands & vehicles. So invited more people and others also started joining in this voluntary service for mankind. Primarily it was focussed on distributing milk and light snacks like biscuits and bread to vehicles stuck in traffic (having kids or senior citizens). As the traffic remained stuck for hours and the weather turned cold, so we started catering hot milk to the stuck people”, said Amarpreet.
Some volunteers kept working on clearing the traffic congestion with traffic police and others were assisting the vehicles that stopped on the way. A few pregnant ladies and senior citizens could be rescued from the spot, through wrong sides, under special permission from the traffic police officials.
Dedicated kits were kept carrying tyre inflators, jacks and other important tools. There were also many vehicles that got out of fuel, so fuel was arranged to make them move.Again no charge was taken for that as well.
Someone from abroad (identity not disclosed) called as he was not able to contact his old mother staying alone near Swargate. “We felt the pain and immediately reached the given address and found that the lady was not well and her charger was not working. So we arranged a charger for her and got her speak to her son sitting abroad. Later a doctor was called and he did the needful. This was not on our cards but both the mother and son were giving blessings and they were simply surprised to know that the service was all free”, Amarpreet recalled.
There were many people whose phones’ batteries got discharged and who were not able to contact their family just to inform that they are safe. “Luckily, fully charged power bank kept in our kits timely helped him to connect to them. This was a small gesture but for someone in need of that charging it was really big and they kept thanking”, informed Guneet Kaur.
The group is running on the personal savings of the individuals acting as the core team. The group is free from all religious/political bindings. Anyone can join as a helping hand (volunteer) to help others in need regardless of religion, caste, color, gender or creed.
The idea is One God resides in all living beings and the needy should be attended to the best of the capacity.
