URGENT: Your Vehicle Might Be Illegal Soon! Here’s What You Must Do Before March 31!

Pune, 15th February 2025: The Maharashtra State Government has mandated the use of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) for all vehicles, with enforcement set to begin after 31st March 2025. Failure to comply may result in penalties imposed by the Regional Transport Office (RTO).
Swapnil Bhosale, Deputy Regional Transport Officer of Pune, explained the unique features of the HSRP. Each plate has a unique PIN on both the front and rear plates, with additional registration marks on the front windshield. This PIN is registered in the vehicle system, allowing for easy identification and preventing plate swapping.
The HSRP mandate has been in effect for vehicles produced and distributed since 1st April 2019. For vehicles registered before this date, owners must install HSRPs by 31st March 2025. After this deadline, vehicles without HSRPs will face legal action under the Motor Vehicle Act.
HSRP Costs and Installation Process
The prices for HSRPs vary based on vehicle type:
– Motorcycles and tractors: ₹450 + GST
– Three-wheelers: ₹500 + GST
– Four-wheelers and other vehicles: ₹745 + GST
To obtain an HSRP, vehicle owners must:
1. Register online at [transport.maharashtra.gov.in](http://transport.maharashtra.gov.in)
2. Select a fitment centre from the provided list
3. Visit the chosen centre on the appointed date
4. Have the plate installed and registered in the vehicle system by the vendor
Bhosale emphasized that HSRPs should only be installed by government-authorized vendors. Plates from unauthorized sources, even if visually similar, will not be registered in the vehicle system, leaving the HSRP status pending.
